Good portion of her day up in smoke

“Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I’ve done it thousands of times.”  —   Mark Twain.

I watched this soccer mom break away from the playing field and pause to enjoy her private cigarette break. The game lasted about 90 minutes but she took two breaks while her child played . It was interesting to note that she was the only one in the crowd of roughly 30 parents who need to have her quiet time. Guess that is a good sign of the times. — gc

  1. The quote that you have included in the head of your write-up is bona fide, it is credence that smoking is still an inevitable process that would be seen everywhere in the world. Loving the way that you capture those small details in your writing. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

  2. I grew up in a time when smoking around children was no big deal… heck, adults smoked in diners, schools and even hospitals.

I quit smoking almost two years ago for a few reasons. One of them was because I was tired of feeling like a leper every time I wanted to smoke; I’d have to walk outside and fifty yards away from the building or be confined to a fenced area with other smoking lepers.

    I love being an ex-smoker!

    Thank you for posting.

  3. Like the pic! And the quote. It’s not decreasing here. I wish there was an area outside of entrances where it could be contained, instead of blasting you when you leave yourself. Maybe it’s like guns, part of the old west persona, still prevalent here in WY.

Definitely food for thought when we consider where we spend our time. It’s also important to remember that we never know what kind of battle others are fighting, because we haven’t walked a mile in their shoes.

  5. At least she had the good sense to take herself away from the other families, though I suspect that’s because of the judgmental looks she’d get if she lit up in the company of the other parents.

Hopefully she”ll find a reason to stop before her kids are old enough to judge too.

I don’t envy her. Will power is not easy to summon!

    • The irony in all this Susan is that she is a coach for her child’s team. Must be the stress of coaching and staying impartial.

  6. GC, smoking is Horrible addiction! It’s been compared to a heroin addiction. I believe it. I’ve been there! I tried to quit over and over and over again! I was finally able to quit using Chantix. A REASON to quit isn’t the answer. She needs help.
