North Korea requires prudent handling

“Humanity can be divided into madmen and cowards. My personal tragedy is in being born into a world where sanity is held to be a character flaw.”  ― Mark Lawrence, Prince of Fools

President Trump recently told the press that if China refuses to help him control the antics of North Korea then the United States will step in and take decisive action.

By publicly declaring this Trump has indirectly claimed that he is as mad as Kim Jong Un the North Korean leader.

His casual utterance of this John Wayne , loose cannon bravado may land the country and the world in dire straits of nuclear annihilation.

Kim Jong-un is the Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea and supreme leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, commonly referred to as North Korea. The People of Korea call him their “Supreme Leader”.

Both he and Trump share a similar personally pampered background and a fanatical , unorthodox belief in themselves and their ability to make things great again for their respective countries.

Both leaders have to date failed miserably to live up to their high-powered , Utopian dreams promises.

While the “Supreme Leader” of N. Korea is fearful for his life via poisoning or unknown attackers Trump is fearful that his own political efficacy and effectiveness will also wane in the light of reality .

Kim Jong Un allegedly uses exotic, high-tech  poisons and hired assassins to carry out his political ends. Trump uses the Tweet to berate, downplay and insult anyone whom he perceives as a threat to his term in office.

Both men should collaborate on one of those “how to” books and compare notes as to which leader is making the biggest dent in the world.

Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail repeatedly asked the following rhetorical question about Trump: “Can we trust him with the codes to the nuclear arsenal?”

The question now becomes: Can we now trust these two world leaders to not get an itchy trigger finger and feel the need to press the nuclear buttons that will launch their nuclear toys which will return the world to a darker primordial state of being?  — gc

  1. I think you’ve just voiced the fears of all your fellow men. Well said Gerry.

  2. Poor game theory. Best option is to make sure we have a robust missile shield and let North Korea collapse under its own weight (hopefully).

    • They are talking now about China assuming a more proactive role in the situation. If missles are let loose then China and South Korea will have massive refugee influxes. Besides, Trump was merely thinking out loud ( if that is possbile) to get the Chinese on the bandwagon.

  3. One small difference: Kim and the Koreans have, as part of his worship of his father and grandfather, never entertained the idea that North Korea was anything but the greatest country on Earth.

I see the same kind of thinking in my own students: they have a completely warped view of reality and their own culpability (or rather, lack thereof) in anything.

    • It is unfortunate that throughout history those dynasties that proclaimed themselves great were toppled by the not so great invading hordes. Thanks for writing.
