Luck for “Meals on Wheels” may run out

“Helping those who have been struck by unforeseeable misfortunes is fundamentally different from making dependency a way of life.” —   Thomas Sowell

This article offers a possible solution to the problem of how to fund programs such as the Meals on Wheels Organization which offers support, sustenance and daily meals to a growing number of dependent seniors.

The money to fund this and similar public service organizations is already out there waiting to be allocated .

Consider this fact: many state lotteries are now ballooning to unprecedented high levels. Who really needs to win over $50 million to be financially secure and happy? No one really.

Some of the state lotteries have reached historic new heights as folks scramble to get there share of the payouts.

My solution involves earmarking a small percentage  (10 – 15 per cent) of these lottery winnings to an independent organization , perhaps the General Accounting Office (GAO),  or another such fiscally responsible organization that will monitor and ensure that the social service organizations that are desperate for funding will receive a share from the public purse.

President Trump and his economic advisors in their infinite wisdom and deep concern for human plight and suffering has decided that the amount of funding towards seniors, social services, health concerns and other humanitarian pursuits will be reduced because they are a waste of public funding and are not working.

Better to spend the money on that magnificent Wall of Trump which will protect decent folks in the United States from bad “hombres, drug dealers, rapists” and other nefarious types allegedly emanating from Mexico their former friend and close trading partner.

A great deal of funding will also be allocated to another Trump charity the military which he will not only beef up manpower wise but also add to the nuclear arsenal the country so desperately needs to secure itself internationally.

There are bad dudes out there whose daily testing of their long-range nuclear  weapons causes a concerned America to allocate this money wisely.

  1. Well, thought out and very well said Gerry. Perhaps, as Mr Trump is such a fan of reality TV and of course now a ‘senior’ ( is that the correct expression over there?) Perhaps he could participate in a social experiment, if you get my drift!
