“Some newspapers are fit only to line the bottom of bird cages.” — Spiro T. Agnew

Vice President Spiro T. Agnew once referred to the members of the media as ” nattering nabobs of negativism”. A harsh indictment at the time.
I suppose he was doing the Mike Pence role of having to save face for then President Richard M. Nixon (R) who was impeached for his involvement in the break in and bugging of Democratic National Committee headquarters in the 1970′ at the Watergate office complex.
President Richard Nixon‘s administration‘s attempted a cover-up of its involvement. When the conspiracy was discovered and investigated by the U.S. Congress, the Nixon administration’s resistance to its probes led to a constitutional crisis.
These days President Trump’s continual and daily down play of the media is reminiscent of the former president’s activities only 45 years ago.
Is history repeating itself or is greed, avarice and negative innuendo gripped the soul of the newly elected president and his now divided staff.?
Only time and hopefully a senate investigation will tell if Mr T. is a crook or merely delusional about the crumbling political reality surrounding himself. — gc
