“Some newspapers are fit only to line the bottom of bird cages.” —  Spiro T. Agnew

T H E   S O U N D   O F   C O R R U P T I O N

Vice President Spiro T. Agnew once referred to the members of the media as ” nattering nabobs of negativism”.  A harsh indictment at the time.

I suppose he was doing the Mike Pence role of having to save face for then President Richard M. Nixon (R) who was impeached for his involvement in the break in and bugging of Democratic National Committee headquarters in the 1970′ at the Watergate office complex.

President Richard Nixon‘s administration‘s attempted a cover-up of its involvement. When the conspiracy was discovered and investigated by the U.S. Congress, the Nixon administration’s resistance to its probes led to a constitutional crisis.

These days President Trump’s continual and daily down play of the media is reminiscent of the former president’s activities only 45 years ago.

Is history repeating itself or is greed, avarice and  negative innuendo gripped the soul of the newly elected president and his now divided staff.?

Only time and hopefully a senate investigation will tell if Mr T. is a crook or merely delusional about the crumbling political reality surrounding himself. — gc

  1. I appreciated your review of Watergate history along with comments on recent parallels.

  2. I too hope there will be a Senate investigation…but I’m not holding my breath.

    • Holding your breath too long will turn your face blue..a Republican motif it seems. But th party should be red faced with their leader’s bad performance. Enjoy the day. 🙂

  3. I believe President Trump is neither delusional or a crook.
He is one who is attempting to make the media accountable for what they write. As one who has friends in foreign countries it is not uncommon for them to tell me of untrue news on certain channels. I hear the news from people who live there and what is reported is often tainted.

As well here in the US I have been a part of the March in DC for life. It has never been reported with the true numbers of how many march etc. Generally it picks up on a small group of protestors and tells that side of the story. I feel that there is fake news. Yes, that is my opinion. But, I am an American and free speech is a right when it comes to editorials and commentaries.

But we need to draw the line when NEWS is reported to the masses and it is biased or untrue. As one who does use the newspaper to line my canary’s cage it is a fact that most are only worthy as a residuals catching piece of paper.

In that way the ink and the residuals match – mostly crap and a few seeds of truth.
