Comic books offer portals to adventure

“When I was a boy, I always saw myself as a hero in comic books and in movies. I grew up believing this dream.” —   Elvis Presley.

For all the Walter Mitty wannabes out there in adult reality land rest assured that comic books offer you the chance to not only partake in an extraordinary adventure but also hold a palpable comic book page in your sweaty little hands.

There are no touch screens required and rebooting is never an issue. During the long and boring winter months comic books offer their readers the chance to use their waning imaginations once again. Men as well as women are into the comic book craze.

It is probably a family reading tradition passed down to those family members who  served in World War Two and read Marvel Comic’s super hero Captain America while on the front lines.

Take a chance. Read comic book.  But, don’t tell your children about it. — gc

  1. This post hits so close to home for me. I have always been an avid reader–still am. I instilled that in my kids but my boys were comic book fanatics and I admit I cringed a bit. But, the comics are carefully boxed in their closet and they are still avid readers–of regular books! Never underestimate the power of a comic book! Good advice, Gerry.

    • Thank you Lois. Comic books provide readers tactile stimulation. There is a sense of anticipation as you turn each page and continue to follow the story line. They are entertaining and pave the way to reading hard back books. Nowadays electronic media deprve the reader of this sense of fun and participation. I still read comic books (adventure) and also electronic books. Enjoy the day. 🙂

  2. Have you priced a comic book lately? 😂

  3. I have never read one.
