Ode to Christmas shoppers everywhere

“As we struggle with shopping lists and invitations, compounded by December’s bad weather, it is good to be reminded that there are people in our lives who are worth this aggravation, and people to whom we are worth the same.” – Donald E. Westlake.

And so this is Christmas

Just three days to go

The bargains are out there

That’s all that I know

The children are cranky

The dog’s in a snit

The traffic will be heavy

 We better just git.

And as we’ re out driving

We happen to see

A few friends and neighbors

All looking for trees.

We’re here for the bargains

That’s all that we seek

We’re pushing and shoving

No time to be meek.

Pedestrians are out there

Not mindful of me

I would run them down but,

That would be too darn messy.

Some seniors are awful

They slip and they fall

My wife is still looking

For a good parking stall.

Some shoppers are shoving

And pushing at me

The kids just saw Santa

And now I am free.

To find a nice cafe

And sip a warm cup of tea

But the kids are excited

And not thinking of me.

I know this is Christmas

But what can I say

With three days to go now

Have no time to play.

And what is refreshing

Is that we all know

Our kids will still love us

But won’t tell us so.

And me I’m an optimist

And not really upset

The gift that I wanted

I’m not gonna get.

And  all I can say as

I drive out of sight

Merry Christmas to all and

Please try not to fight.  – gc
