Quiet man enjoys internalized reality

“Reputation is only a candle, of wavering and uncertain flame, and easily blown out, but it is the light by which the world looks for and finds merit.”  —  James Russell Lowell

His neighbors have labelled him “The Professor”. No one has bothered to verify his academic credentials but he is a familiar site on the street of one municipal community slowly plodding along day after day on his way to his favorite coffee shop with a lighted cigarette in his right hand. At times he is consumed in deep thought. Other times he is engaged in an animated and spirited debate with an invisible opponent, a flock of birds or even a tree. He is not a danger to the community. He could be an eccentric inventor, mystery writer or a person simply enjoying his everyday existence. Only he knows for sure. —  gc
