Taking a hike on the wilder side of life

“The long distance hiker, a breed set apart,
From the likes of the usual pack.
He’ll shoulder his gear, be hittin’ the trail;
Long gone, long ‘fore he’ll be back.”
M.J. Eberhart

When you are vacationing on a pristine Pacific island off the mainland of the United States your natural desire to explore and take in the raw beauty of the setting gets the better of you . Eventually, you shed the confines of your city garb and don a reliable pair of hiking boots that will allow you to comfortably explore the forest primeval. But you quickly realize this idyllic setting is inhabited by residents who appreciate nature while at the same time retaining their communications links with the outside world. — G.C.

Quote of the week: “What is true is already so. Owning up to it doesn't make it worse. Not being open about it doesn't make it go away. And because it's true, it is what is there to be interacted with. Anything untrue isn't there to be lived. People can stand what is true, for they are already enduring it.” ― Eugene T. Gendlin, Focusing
