Child’s kite confined to Mother Earth

Imagine that you are in this guy’s sneakers and desperately trying to get your child’s kite off the ground and into the air. What thoughts would be running through your mind? You are depending on an uplifting current of air that would help you save face and the day’s outing.

E D I T O R I A L   N O T E 

This is the third entry in a four-part series describing the planning and the care this dad exerted trying to fly the kite this day.

As the afternoon wore on you could see that this young father’s patience and resolve were gradually being eroded by his many futile attempts to launch this kite into the air.

Time after time as the light breezes caught hold of the kite you shared his sense of accomplishment. In the same heartbeat you also empathized with his disappointment as the wind released its hold on the kite and it fell back to the ground like a ton of bricks.

We are now a few hours into the game and both parent and child are experiencing the hopelessness of the situation. It is probably only a matter of time before they call it quits for the day.
