Litter besmirches earth’s raw beauty

“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.” — John Lubbock

A well designed rock garden and meticulously planned landscaping cannot conceal the fact that most folks treat the outdoors as their own personal garbage can and litter anywhere and everywhere. If you look above the small inset photo you will see an abandoned car floor mat, soup dish and beer bottle hidden in the under brush of this garden located on the grounds of a library.

For many folks the earth is that multi colored marble that spins serenely in space and provides a safe home for humanity and the other flora and fauna that also share the ecosphere.

For others the earth is merely a handy garbage receptacle meant to readily absorb their personal refuse, beer bottles, tossed cigarette butts and of course obsolete auto equipment.

It is amazing that the planet we call home can be treated so callously by a significant minority of people and have such major consequences for the majority of us who also reside here.

In all fairness to the library I did not have the opportunity to inform them of the litter in their entranceway garden. I am sure that if I did have the chance the situation would have been rectified.
