V.A. plagued by basic corruption Hefty bonuses to “retain talent”

The young patriots now returning from war in Iraq and Afghanistan and other deployments worldwide are joining the ranks of veterans to whom America owes an immense debt of gratitude.  — Steve Buyer

The Department of Veterans Affairs doled out more than $142 million in bonuses to executives and employees for performance in 2014 even as scandals over veterans’ health care and other issues racked the agency

I think that it is about time that returning war veterans openly declare war on the Veterans Benefits Administration. These men and women have placed their lives on the line and deserve more than the simple handouts they are being awarded.

They are not a blight or an embarrassment on society. They are true believers and tried their best to deal with the many oppressive forces that are trying to dominate the world today. At many times the press and public opinion is against them but still they strive to do their best to protect life and personal freedoms the world over

It is an absolute affront to their heroic efforts and personal sacrifices that such an administration dedicated to the humane treatment of returning veterans be plagued by internal corruption, greed  and dissension in the ranks of these supposed “talented administrators”.

The big payouts do not guarantee that effective administration of the VA will take place. The head hunters are looking in the wrong job markets for competent and effective leadership.

Why not choose future administrators from the  ranks of those vets who gained their own brand of invaluable skill and experience in real life-and-death situations on the combat field and not at an expensive ivy league college?

These men and women deserve our gratitude, respect and protection from a world that places more emphasis on big pay packages to worthy executives than on the welfare of these confused, injured and dependent people who put it on the line for the rest of us.

They deserve more than the shabby treatment and long waiting lines that currently makes their lives a living hell on earth.

An all expense paid body bag and a place in potter’s field should not be their welcome home reward.

It’s time to control the purse strings and dole out the proper care and respect these people have duly and rightly earned. Ditch the golden parachutes for the prima dona CEOs. They aren’t worth it.
