The shaky side of everyday living Staying focused helps you cope

“The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.”   ― Bertrand Russell

Reality at times can be as precarious and threatening to the majority of people living today as it is to this stick figure momentarily balanced atop this jury-rigged yam tower. Sometimes you just have to keep your balance and your wits about you if you want to succeed.

In today’s world we are constantly warned to be careful: of the things we eat, the places we go and the way we relate to our brave new world that appears to be shrinking daily and becoming a lot more intimidating.

The world which we were once taught as children to believe was round like a colorful beach ball to many folks is more like this roughly constructed yam tower challenging us everyday with new threats and concerns. We have to maintain a mental balance between what the world does and our personal reactions to it.

This week’s WP Weekly Photo Challenge allows me the opportunity to go off on a proverbial limb and visually present my take of life in modern times. It offers a mixture of encouragement, hope, humor and of course optimism for those folks struggling with the impossible odds and events that life throws their way on a daily basis.

We all might be stuck on the same boat in life but remember to remind yourself daily that not ocean-going vessel is The Titanic. The majority of such vessels offer their passengers gateways to exciting shores and wonderful scenery to boot if only they will let go of the life saver they cling to so desperately.

If a stick man can maintain its balance atop such a precarious tower how much better can we do it in the long run. The choice is yours. The world might not be your oyster but it is still an exciting place to live in.

  3. Thanks for the reminder to let go of the life preserver sometimes and just leap. Love the yam tower; is the choice of vegetable significant?

    • The choice of the yam is significant. The theme for the challenge stressed care and caution. I had purchased the yams to have with a meal this weekend. As I thought about the challenge I placed the yams on the scale , attempted to balance them and then added the stick figure for good measure.

After composing the picture I then decided to write a blanced theme around the tower. The rest is history. Sometimes I just get these off-the-wall ideas. In case you were wondering I microwaved the yams for 22 minutes and they tasted great with a slice of ham, sweet peas and pineapple. 🙂

Thank you for your comments and thoughts. Enjoy the day.
