Sunday evening around supper time I happened to glance out my kitchen window and noticed that on the sidewalk near the back steps and adjacent to one of the smaller apartment units was an abandoned pile of personal possessions apparently placed there by its owner.
I did not know how long the obstruction had been on the sidewalk but was curious as to who had left it there. When you live in a main floor suite you often catch sight of things that would make for interesting television viewing.
It was the end of the month and when you are an apartment dweller you eventually appreciate the fact that some tenants will move out of their rental units and a new set of residents will be moving in to occupy the empty suites.
Around 7 p.m. a dark colored van parked beside the abandoned mishmash and the driver quickly and stealthily flung the material into the vehicle and drove away. As he was hurling the things into the van a group of four people piled into the van and strapped themselves into their seats.
One hour later a different vehicle stopped outside this apartment, deposited a similarly sized pile of stuff on the walkway and quickly left the scene. A group of four people jumped out of the vehicle and made a bee line for the same apartment unit mentioned earlier.
This was one of those occurrences that regularly happen near month end when an unofficial changing of the guard occurs. In this case I discovered that one set of family members had been visiting their grandmother and that a new group immediately swooped in to fill the void created by the previous group’s departure.
The mystery of the abandoned tower of items had finally been solved.
